GLOBSEC 2010 will reconvene in September 2010

The fifth annual international security conference GLOBSEC 2010 will reconvene in new dates on 13 – 14 September 2010 in Bratislava. The conference takes place traditionally at the beginning of the year. Due to the Icelandic volcano and paralyzed European air space earlier this year, the organizers have been forced to reschedule the original dates of the conference from April 2010 to September 2010.

The Slovak Atlantic Commission will use the time until September to upgrade the conference program, invite additional key players of the foreign and security policy, but in particular it will utilize the new political reality in the Central Europe. Later this year, Slovakia will assume chairmanship of the Visegrad Four group. At the same time, three new governments will be formed in Central Europe – in Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. “It is a unique opportunity for the meeting of governmental representatives of these countries and to present their new foreign policy priorities as well as to evaluate the new political situation in Central Europe” said Róbert Vass, the Secretary General of the Slovak Atlantic Commission. So GLOBSEC 2010 will be even more political relevant than its past editions, its ambition is to become the platform for a joint meeting of foreign ministers the V4 countries.

September 2010 will however bring also other interesting topics that will be discussed at GLOBSEC, such as the EU Summit on Foreign Policy that will take place only few days after the conference, or the Secretary General´s text of the new Strategic Concept of NATO, that will be presented in the same period. SAC will publish more information on the conference topics on the official web page of the conference www.globsec.org.

GLOBSEC conference is the leading annual high-level fora for key politicians, thinkers and opinion makers in Central Europe on foreign and security policy.  Since 2005, it brings annually together around 500 political, non-governmental, corporate and intellectual leaders from the both sides of the Atlantic. Its purpose is to shape the transatlantic security agenda from Central European perspective. During relatively short time, the conference has build up a solid reputation and today ranks among the major European conferences in the same field. This year we expect high-level participation from the Visegrad countries and wider Central European region including ministers of foreign affairs, members of national parliaments, opinion leaders, experts, representatives of ministries of defence and foreign affairs, number of security advisors as well as substantial representation from regional and European media.

The conference is organized by the Slovak Atlantic Commission with the support of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, Representation of the European Commission to Slovakia, NATO Public Diplomacy Division and other partners.
