Ambassador Robert E. Hunter
Former President of the Atlantic Treaty Association, Brussels, Belgium
Mr. Ambassador, what do you expect from new president Barrack Obama?
I think that it is great achievement for American people, to have Barrack Obama as president. Not only he is the best qualified person, person with inspiration and leadership, but also for my country, finally to have Afro-American as a president is a continuation of what we have been trying to do, since we were founded, 230 years ago. This elections, last week, was one of the extraordinary days, in all of the American history.
How will Obama deal with challenges ahead United States as well as challenges of new essence?
I think, that you find, that Barrack Obama as a president will be very effective leader, not just in United States, but in the outside world, as well, working more with other countries, rather than United States trying to tell people what to do. This brings new sense of partnership, new sense of opening, new sense of willingness to listen and engaged to others and to bring the very best to the nation, of the American nation.
My third and the last questions is: what is your opinion on Obama´s approach towards issue of antimissile defense?
Well, obviously, Mr. Obama, Senator Obama is not president yet, and takes the place on 20th of January, and he will have series of decisions to take after the review of the antimissile issue with regard to both, Czech Republic and Poland. I would more predict, where he will come out, other then it will be something that has to be done very carefully with the allies, to try to make sure, that everybody’ s security is done to the maximum possible.
