More than 350 young leaders from 57 countries is taking part in a discussion on the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation today which is a side-event of the approaching NATO summit in Strasbourg and Kehl. Slovakia – that has recently commemorated 5 years of its membership in the Alliance – is also represented at the meeting. The event is taking place at the occasion of the 60th anniversary of NATO’s establishment, only a day before the summit from which new impulses for the Alliance, in particular commencing the creation of the new Strategic Concept, are expected. Young participants will speak with international leaders about the importance of NATO in the contemporary dynamic security environment. Besides the Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, who will officially open the forum, students will have the opportunity to meet the French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy, Dan Hamilton from the Johns Hopkins University, or journalists from the New York Times, Financial Times, ZDF and the Economist.
The Slovak Atlantic Commission has sent his representative to the event – a student of international relations – and will stream the live discussion from the both days of the forum via its webpage.
