General Information

GLOBSEC is the annual high-level leading international foreign policy and security conference in Central Europe. Since 2005, this forum has been gathering the most influential governmental, nongovernmental, corporate leaders and opinion builders, including journalists and security experts. GLOBSEC annually creates an unparalleled venue for international and domestic security community to discuss solutions to key transatlantic and global security challenges in Central Europe. During relatively short time, the conference has build up a solid reputation and today ranks among the major European conferences in the same field. The GLOBSEC 2010 conference follows also the successful “New Challenges – Better Capabilities” conference up, which was organized simultaneously with the NATO Defence Ministers Meeting that took place in Bratislava in October 2009. GLOBSEC has put Bratislava on the map of European capitals, where important international forums are shaping the transatlantic security agenda. GLOBSEC carries international cachet that will be confirmed again by this year’s participation of distinguished guests.

The GLOBSEC conferences have been reflecting the most important topics of international affairs and security. During the four years of its existence, it has initiated significant discussion related to such key questions of international security as fight against global terrorism, NATO transformation, and perspectives of security development in the Balkans, Afghanistan or Iraq. The conference traditionally offers a wide spectrum of opinions, forming an excellent platform for political, expert, critical and constructive discussion.

The discussion on the GLOBSEC 2010 conference will touch upon four topical subjects: the new strategy of ISAF mission in Afghanistan; drafting of the new Strategic Concept of NATO; consequences of the economic crises on global security and power balance; global ambitions of post-Lisbon Europe and the prospects of development of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is starting to
fracture.

GLOBSEC 2010 will be a two day conference with seven highly interesting panels and three night owl sessions, several keynote speeches and many networking side events, receptions and focused lunch discussions. Each main panel discussion will be led by an experienced moderator in an interactive and dynamic way as a television debate with a strong position of the chairman, who will be interviewing the panellists, while enabling the interaction with the audience. The three night owl sessions will be held in a more informal setting of the hotel cafeteria. During the conference days we will organize several parallel small discussion sessions, each for about 20 participants,  on specific issues. Apart from the official program, the GLOBSEC conference creates a unique possibility for networking, contact-building and discussion for participants in an informal ambience during coffee breaks, lunch and reception.

Each year, the GLOBSEC conference gathers most influential governmental, non-governmental, corporate leaders and opinion builders, including journalists and security experts, from Slovakia, Central Europe and the broader transatlantic region. The demand for the conference participation is growing each year and now it exceeds the conference capacity, which is now around 300 guests. We are also focusing on the regional dimension of the conference impact. That is why we invite key security players from the Central and Eastern European region. Also this year, we expect an exclusive target group: number of security advisors, decision-makers, ambassadors, members of national parliaments, representatives of ministries of defence and foreign affairs, members of the academic sphere and other key foreign policy and security policy stakeholders. A very important target group is the corporate sector, which will have the possibility to interact with the governmental representatives on the solutions of the actual security challenges. The participation at the conference is based on special invitations issued by the Slovak Atlantic Commission in cooperation with the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
