Ian BrzezinskiSenior Fellow, International Security Program, Atlantic Council, Washington, D.C.
Ian Brzezinski is a Senior Fellow in the International Security Program and is on the Council’s Strategic Advisors Group (SAG). He brings to the Council and its International Security Program over two decades of experience in U.S. national security matters having served in senior policy positions in the Department of Defense and the U.S. Congress. Mr. Brzezinski served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO Policy (2001 – 2005). His lead responsibilities included NATO expansion, Alliance force planning and transformation and NATO operations in the Balkans, the Mediterranean, Afghanistan and Iraq. Key highlights of his tenure include the expansion of NATO membership in 2004, the consolidation and reconfiguration of the Alliance’s command structure, the standing up of the NATO Response Force and the coordination of European military contributions to U.S. and NATO- led operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans.
Matthew Rhodes
Director, Program in Advanced Security Studies, Geogre C. Marshall Euroepan Center for Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Dr. Matthew Rhodes is the Director of the Program in Advanced Security Studies and professor of national security studies at the Marshall Center. He arrived at the center in 2003. His principle interests include U.S. foreign and security policy, national security decision making, and Central and Southeast European security issues. Dr. Rhodes previously served as assistant professor of strategy and international security at the U.S. Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama from 1999 – 2003; assistant professor in the department of political science at Central College, Pella, Iowa from 1998 – 1999; and Jan Hus Foundation Academic Mentor in the department of politics and European studies at Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic from 1997 – 1998.

Deputy Director, Centre for Eastern Studies, Warsaw
He has MA degree in international relations, the Warsaw University (1999) and a PhD in political science, the European University Institute in Florence (2007). He was a research fellow at the Centre for International Relations (1998-2002) and now Dr. Osica is a research fellow at the Natolin European Centre, and lecturer in European studies at Collegium Civitas. His main areas of his expertise are: national defence, EU common security and defence policy, transatlantic relations.
