GLOBSEC Special update: Euro: Shifting from Survival to Revival?

Overall industry in the EU went down by 15 per cent, 23 million people in Europe are unemployed and the average deficit comes up to 7 per cent.

GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum, the most important annual foreign policy and security forum in Central Europe held in the Slovak capital, incorporated a special Night Owl Session dealing with one of the most pressing issues that the European community is facing.

Nevertheless the current forecasts are likely to be positive. There were most significant signs in Davos during the World Economic Forum that the international financial community was growing more sanguine about the euro.  German Chancellor Merkel is determined to use the Euro-crisis as a teaching moment, a chance to pressure Europe’s laggards to remake their economies as the price for financial aid. In fact she used language almost identical to that of President Nicolas Sarkozy of France as she vowed to defend the euro to the end.

Which alternatives have been considered in respect with rectification of current situation? How to deal with a lack of a single monetary area anchored in the Lisbon treaty? These questions as well as other relevant issues associated with this situation and its consequences will be discussed within the session by the most renowned experts.

The GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum is held in the exclusive premises of the Kempinski Hotel River Park Bratislava where the most prominent guests are being transported by the brand new BMW fleet. Many of the carmaker´s special models are used at the top-level diplomatic occasions demanding advanced security and comfort specifications

The event is organized by the Slovak Atlantic Commission under the auspices of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mikuláš Dzurinda and in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, NATO Public Diplomacy Division, European Commission Representation in Slovakia and the International Visegrad Fund.
