Pavol Frešo is politically active since 1990. In 2006 he was elected to the National Council of the Slovak Republic as a deputy for the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union - Democratic Party (SDKÚ-DS). In the National Council he was a member of the Committee for the monitoring of activities of the National Security Authority and the Committee on Land Economy and Environment. One part of his agenda was also to get involved in advocating the transparent system of the emission quotas sale. He was a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly. In autumn 2009 he was elected as a President of the Bratislava Region (BSR). Pavol Frešo advocates the proactive approach of the self-government in the field of financial transparency and stability, development of transport, education, tourism and cooperation with EU regions, especially with the neighboring regions of the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary.
