Bratislava will become a centre of the world security discussions for a couple of days

A conference entitled ”New Challenges – Better Capabilities” will take place as a part of informal NATO  Defence Minister Meeting in Bratislava with the aim to initiate discussion about international and security questions. Key representatives of NATO, its member countries as well as high-profile experts from the international security community will therefore gather in Bratislava.

Changes in approach of the United States towards the anti-missile system in Central Europe, future of the relations with Russia, NATO mission in Afghanistan, nuclear disarmament or financial crisis and its impact on defence budgets – these are just few topics that will be discussed not only by the Alliance defence ministers, NATO Secretary General, but also by a number of experts from international security community. The keynote speech delivered by Anders Fogh Rasmussen will be one of his first public appearances in the post of the Secretary General and he is expected to introduce his vision of the Alliance in the next years.

The two-day conference, which will take place on October 21 – 22, 2009 in the historical building of the Slovak National Council at Župné námestie, is organized by the Slovak Atlantic Commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic and NATO Public Diplomacy Division.
