Estonian Minister of Defence Jaak Aaviksoo is going to deliver a speech dealing with the significance of common defence against the cyber terrorism at tomorrow’s security conference in Bratislava. Estonia had to deal with the severe consequences of the cyber attack two years ago, which paralyzed the life in the country for a few days. According to the planned digitalization of the public administration is this question utmost accurate in Slovakia.
Regardless of the previous insufficient attention to this topic, the threat of cyber terrorism has recently gained on its importance. Big companies, governmental organs and other strategic institutions could not avoid the development of data and communication technologies. However, these have become potential targets, what has proved to become critical according to attacks in Estonia.
The North-Atlantic Alliance reacted by the creation of The Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn specializing on protection against this new threat. One year after its opening, in the times of the new NATO Strategic Concept preparations, it is necessary to reevaluate the steps which had been undertaken and to propose the new vision of the common defence against cyber attacks in the days to come. Estonian Minister of Defence, Col. Ilmar Tamm and other public and private experts are coming to discuss the topic in Bratislava.
The discussion about the New Strategic Concept will be followed by the Cyber security debate, which should be reacting to the new challenges of the contemporary world. For this reason other key figures of the Bratislava ministerial meeting will participate at the „New Challenges – Better Capabilities“ conference. The attention will be focused primarily on the NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who will deliver one of his first public speeches in this position.
This event is the greatest security conference in Slovakia and is organized by a non-governmental organization Slovak Atlantic Commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic and NATO Public Division on the 21st - 22nd October 2009 in Bratislava.
