Jean-François Bureau is the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy. He previously worked as the Director for Information and Communication at the French Ministry of Defence. From 1994 until 1998 he was in charge of defence affairs and head of communication unit at the „Cour de comptes“. He served in several other positions in his career. He was a head of the press office of the Presidency of the Republic (1991-1994), Counsellor of the Minister of Defence for Information and Communication (1991), Head of the Information and Public Relations Office (SIRP) of the Ministry of the Interior (1990-1991), Secretary of the Institute for Home Security Studies (1989-1990), Counsellor of the Minister of Defence for Parliamentary, Information and Public Relations Affairs (1983-1985), Parliamentary Adviser for defence affairs (1981-1983). He graduated from „Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris“ in 1974 and from Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne University in Political Science department in 1977. Jean-François Bureau also worked in several academic institutions being in charge of international relations and defence courses.
